Self-Sacrifice

I believe a self-sacrifice is one of the most morally right things to do in the world.  By sacrificing yourself to help someone else can only be looked at the right way.  In regards to the firefighters, they are heroes and nothing but it, they put their lives on the line everyday to serve the people.  There isn’t someone that can self-sacrifice themselves and not have a sort of good reason why they did it.  Self-sacrificing yourself is the one of the best examples of utilitarianism because when you sacrifice yourself for someone else your doing the most morally right thing in the world, which creates overall happiness.  Even if someone is unsuccessful in the case of the firefighters, they are honored all the time for even trying.  We must value the people that sacrifice themselves for others.  With regards to the amish people, they are doing what they believe is morally right.  Many people believe that they do things that aren’t right in most aspects to the modern world, just as one of our classmates said about her car accident and the amish man going against his beliefs to help her.  That man was sacrificing his believes in order to what was morally right, so i believe self-sacrifice is the most valued thing in our society today.

I agree with you that self sacrifice is a good thing but to others it may be a bad thing and there may issues in which a person sacrifices themselves for a believe that the have which in turn kills thousands of people, however to others sharing the same belief it would be seen as virtuous while others would see it as wrong. Are there cases in which the idea of self sacrifice is bad?

There could be cases where self-sacrifice is not a good thing. Suicide bombers are sacrifice a lot but surely it isn’t something moral.
